Culture Durham Culture Trust Mission Statement

We know there are significant gaps in accessing arts and culture at every level across County Durham. Many communities, especially in the most underserved and economically disadvantaged areas, face barriers that prevent them from experiencing the transformative power of culture. These barriers not only limit access to arts and culture but also hinder the potential for enhancing wellbeing, driving economic growth, and creating a genuine sense of place and community identity.

We understand that everyone needs help to break down these barriers. By making introductions to arts and culture, we can unlock the potential for personal and community growth. Culture has the power to enhance wellbeing, drive economic growth, and foster a deep sense of community identity.

Which is why we, at Culture Durham Culture Trust (CDCT), are committed to partnering with local organisations and stakeholders. Together, we will develop and implement programmes that deliver long-term impact. We believe that every single encounter with arts and culture is full of potential.

Our vision is to create a sustainable and impactful cultural environment in County Durham. We aim to build a thriving, inclusive cultural landscape that reflects the diverse voices and heritage of our community—now and for future generations.

Through strategic partnerships, programme development, and leveraging targeted investment, we will expand opportunities for engagement, support local creative talent, and help the County Council manage its cultural assets in a more sustainable and effective way. By leading fundraising efforts, advancing cultural equity, and advocating for the value of creativity, we will ensure that our initiatives have a meaningful and lasting impact on the community.

We strive to address long-standing disparities in cultural access and make arts and culture accessible to all. By doing so, we aim to improve the wellbeing of our community, boost the local economy, and create a profound sense of place and belonging.
